Sadie Mielcarz, a sophomore at Lebanon High School, submitted a Letter to the Editor that was published in the Valley News newspaper in August 2020. The letter was inspired by her remote summer research project with the NH Academy of Science in which she investigated the water quality of two popular swimming holes in Lebanon, NH. We are proud that she was able to share with the broader community her results which indicated those sites are indeed good and safe swimming spots! Water quality research is one of the fields of research we implemented this summer to fit with our students performing research remotely in home labs instead of on-site NHAS STEM Center facility.

Just back from her trip to the AAAS (American Association for the Advancement of Science) meeting in Seattle where she was part of the American Junior Academy of Science (AJAS), Lian Snow was interviewed about her journey. She started as part of the inaugural group of students at the Fairbanks Museum and Planetarium STEM Lab, completed a research project last summer at the NHAS STEM Center, and qualified to present her work as part of the AJAS. Other students who took that same route from the Fairbanks Museum STEM Lab to AJAS are Gabrielle Anzalone, Esme Kimber, and Theodora Montague.

St. Johnsbury high school student Luke Young-Xu got the highest possible score on the 2019 ACT college admissions test. Luke attended our 3-week summer program in 2019 and did his research on Genotoxicity and Reproductive Toxicity of Cobalt Nanoparticles in C. elegans

Only about 5,000 out of 2 million test-takers get this score and Luke is probably the first in the history of St. Johnsbury Academy. Congrats, Luke!
