We offer the following 3 STEM Programs this summer

Your payment of $300 will include the $50 nonrefundable Application Fee.
We cannot guarantee the placement of any new students at this time.

The NHAS STEM Lab, located in Lyme NH, is a state-of-the-art laboratory that is equipped with advanced scientific instruments supporting research across the STEM fields. Our summer programs are instructed by PhD scientists and engineers. This is a rare opportunity to do authentic hands-on research with professional scientists and engineers. Our programs operate during the day only.  We do not offer a residence/boarding option. We offer generous Financial aid, available on a case-by-case basis. Program A: Applied Scientific Research There are two, 3-week sessions. June 24-July 16 & July 17-Aug 7. You may choose one or both sessions.
Program B: Introduction to Scientific Research This is a one-week program; one session only. June 17-Jun 21
Program C: Beginning Computer Coding for Big Data This is a one-week program; one session only. Aug 12-Aug 16

Program A: Applied Scientific Research You may choose one or both of our two, 3-week sessions:
Session 1 - June 24 thru July 16; Price - $3,000 (plus $50 application fee)
Session 2 - July 17 thru Aug 7; Price - $3,000 (plus $50 application fee)

What Will You Experience? 

  • 3 weeks of intensive research guided by professional scientists

  • 2 weeks of additional lab access with mentored guidance

  • A total of up to 5 weeks working in an advanced research lab

  • the chance to execute the entire scientific process from experimental design to publication

  • developing technical skills with advanced instruments

  • working with other highly motivated students

  • presenting your research to STEM professionals

  • the chance to publish your research in professional journals

  • the chance to present your research at national and international meetings

  • long-term career and college application guidance

  • the chance for membership in the only national STEM honor society - American Junior Academy of Science


PROGRAM B: Introduction to Scientific Research
One Week Session only - June 17 thru June 21; Price = $600

What Will You Experience?

  • one week working in a research lab guided by professional scientists

  • safely using scientific instrument including: advanced microscopes, animal tissue culture, DNA PCR, animal model systems

  • how scientists ethically design and perform authentic scientific experiments

  • developing technical skills with advanced instruments

  • working with other highly motivated students

  • presenting research in verbal and written formats

  • how students in our nation achieve national prominence in STEM

  • long-term career and college application guidance

  • this could lead to further research and the chance for membership in the only national STEM honor society - American Junior Academy of Science


PROGRAM C: Beginning Computer Coding for Big Data
One Week Session only - Aug 12 thru Aug 16; Price = $600

What Will You Experience?

  • one week working in a research lab guided by professional scientists

  • how scientists apply simple object-oriented programming languages to mine BIG DATA

  • how scientists ethically explore Big Data

  • developing technical skills in computing and mathematics

  • working with other highly motivated students

  • presenting research in verbal and written formats

  • how students in our nation achieve national prominence in STEM

  • long-term career and college application guidance

  • this could lead to further research and the chance for membership in the only national STEM honor society - American Junior Academy of Science


Admission is competitive, and students of all backgrounds are selected. The Summer Program welcomes a diverse cross-section of learners including racial and ethnic minorities, and people from all socioeconomic backgrounds. All students are required to attend the entire program. Students with minor date conflicts are encouraged to apply despite the minor conflicts; our staff will assist participants to facilitate dealing with minor schedule conflicts to ensure they get the most from the program.  Students with significant date conflicts, such as missing key days (first two days of safety and experimental planning), are encouraged to delay their application for another year. Please check with our staff to find if your conflicts are only minor.

Eligibility and Selection for the 2019 Summer Programs:

By the fall of 2019 you must be a student in grades 6-12 or a graduating senior. Preference will be given to applicants who:

  • show sound academic achievement

  • exhibit personal and academic responsibility

  • exhibit curiosity of the natural world

  • work well either as an individual or in a team
